Robert Lewandowski (Polish pronunciation: [ˈrɔbɛrt lɛvanˈdɔfskʲi]; born 21 August 1988) is a Polish footballer who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund and the Poland national football team as a striker. Having previously played for Delta Warsaw, Legia Warsaw, Znicz Pruszków and Lech Poznań, he joined Borussia in 2010.Lewandowski made his first appearance of the Bundesliga campaign in Dortmund's 2–1 defeat of Werder Bremen on the opening day of the season.[26] He netted his first goal in the 3–0 defeat of Bayer Leverkusen on 15 September 2012, extending Dortmund's run to 31 games unbeaten and moved the club into third in the Bundesliga.[27] In the club's first Champions League game of the season, Lewandowski netted an emphatic 87th minute winner to defeat AFC Ajax by a score of 1–0.[28]Lewandowski opened the scoring on 24 October against Real Madrid at home, pumping in a cross from Sebastian Kehl in the 36th minute as Dortmund defeated the Spanish champions 2–1 thanks to a second half strike from Marcel Schmelzer.[29] On 10 November, Lewandowski had his first multi-goal game of the campaign, netting a second half double in Dortmund's 3–1 defeat of bottom club FC Augsburg.[30] Lewandowski struck twice against Ajax on 21 November in the reverse fixture of the opening game of the Champions League, sending Dortmund into the Round of 16 in style.[31] The Polish striker scored his eighth goal in twelve Bundesliga games when he net the winner against Mainz 05 on 24 November, sending Dortmund into second in the Bundesliga, nine points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.[32]According to Dortmund director Michael Zorc, Lewandowski will not be renewing his contract with the club, and will leave either in the summer of 2013 or after the 2013–14 season.[33]
